The Emerald Pool, in the Morne Trois Piton National Park, is a spectacular waterfall grotto accessible via an easy 30-minute hike. The pool is surrounded by lush vegetation, which causes the water to appear bright green when the sunlight filters through it. Take a dip in the pool and even swim right up to the waterfall. There is a US $5 fee to visit the Emerald Pool, or US $12 for a week pass.
One of Dominica’s best beaches, and a definite must do while on the island, is Woodford Hill Bay. With its calm waters, this beach is a great destination for the entire family. Spend the day relaxing quietly in the sun, or venture out and meet the local fishermen, who have been known to ask for a hand in bringing in their daily catch!

For the serious hikers lucky enough to find themselves in Dominica, the six-hour hike along the Boiling Lake in Roseau Valley is an absolute must do! On your way to the world’s largest boiling lake, you will traverse dense rainforest filled with tropical birds and other rare fauna and flora. The lake itself consists of bubbling bluish-gray water, often with a cloud of vapor sitting atop it. The hike is truly spectacular but should only be done by experience hikers and it is recommended you go with a guide.
Another of Dominica’s adventures that should not be missed is the Rainforest Horseback Riding. With numerous trails to choose from, you will not miss out. Whether you’re looking for a ride across the beach or along the paths traversing the lush rainforest, this adventure has it all! Riding lessons for both beginners and advanced riders are also offered.
Screw’s Sulphur Springs, one of Dominica’s most amazing natural wonders, is the perfect place to visit for an unparalleled level of relaxation. The springs consist of five natural pools nestled in the dense rainforest of Morne Trois Piton National Park. An hour’s visit, which is about all you need, costs US $10.
A quick, 20-minute drive from Roseau followed by a short 10 to 15 minute walk will bring you to the magical twin waterfalls known as Trafalgar Falls. Snap some photos of the Falls from a perfectly-placed viewing platform, and even go for a swim in the pools below if you’re feeling brave. The tallest waterfall has natural hot springs you can relax in as well!

Trafalgar Falls
Hikers must not miss the 1.5-hour hike through Morne Trois Piton National Park to Middleham Falls, a 200ft high falls pouring out over a small lip at the top of a cliff. Feel the spray of the falls as you approach them along the trails; even go for a swim in the pool below; although the water can be fairly cold.
The natural beauty of Dominica is embodied fully in the Titou Gorge, a series of natural pools and “rooms” enveloped in steep walls created by the cooling of molten lava long ago. You do not want to miss the hike to the gorge and short, five-minute swim from the base of a beautiful waterfall and nearby hot spring through this ethereal passageway.
Scott’s Head Beach is another of the island’s best beaches, well known for its great snorkeling and scuba diving. The waters surrounding Scott’s Head Beach contain spectacular underwater walls that make this destination a diver’s paradise. Sea kayaking is also a very popular activity here. With its clear blue waters and offerings of many great activities, this beach is an absolute must do!
