The beautiful island of Carriacou should not be missed by anyone lucky enough to find themselves in Grenada. The small island of around 14 square miles boasts a highly varied landscape from tall peaks to spectacular beaches, offering everything from rugged treks to hours of undisturbed relaxation on the island’s beaches. For some history on the island, visit the Carriacou Museum, located in a former cotton gin mill.
For a totally unique experience, you should check out the underwater sculpture garden conceived by Jason de Caires Taylor. The collection of over 65 sculptures secured to the sea floor was designed to offer “an ideal habitat for filter feeding organisms,” and you can easily notice the significant and intentional impact that nature has had on the collection over time.

Chocolate anyone? A trip to the Grenada Chocolate Company should not be missed! Tour this incredible factory and see the chocolate-making process from start to finish. Most of the chocolate produced here comes from cocoa grown organically just down the road from the factory. For the real chocoholics, you can even visit the fields and see the cocoa in pod form as it grows.
The adventurous visitors to Grenada should not miss the river tubing adventure along the Balthazar River. After an introduction and safety briefing, don your life vest and hop into your modified river tube for a thrilling journey down the river. After the adventure, jump out of your tube for a quick swim in one of the pools before sitting down with a glass of rum punch or local fruit juice.
One Grenada’s most spectacular waterfalls is the Seven Sisters Falls. The hike to the falls is relatively easy and takes you through a private plantation where cocoa, nutmeg and bananas are grown. Once at the falls, you can take a swim in one of the pools at the base of the falls, or simply relax by the water.
La Sagesse Nature Center is a magnificent hideaway to explore. Once a large estate home and plantation, the Nature Center now features several buildings, both new and old, where guests can stay, as well as a delicious outdoor bar and restaurant and a quiet, secluded beach.

For a fresh and delicious meal, visit the Conde Naste Hot Table award-winning Boots Cuisine restaurant along Grand Anse Valley main road. A visit to the restaurant is an absolute must for seafood lovers as they offer a wide variety of fish and other seafood, all freshly caught and prepared to order. The restaurant offers great non-seafood meals as well.
The beauty of Levera Beach, Grenada, lies mostly in its isolation. A 30-minute hike will take you to this magical place where nothing but the rough waves and the green, pointy hills of Sugar Loaf Island greets you. Visit during the spring to witness the highly endangered leatherback turtles lay eggs on the beach.
Ever wonder what it takes to produce those great bottles of Caribbean rum? Have all your questions answered at the Grenada Rum Factory at the River Antoine Estate. Watch the full rum-making process as it has been done for generations. And when it is all said and done, have a sample!
