St. Martin Musts

The island of St. Martin has no shortage of beautiful beaches and Maho Beach near Princess Juliana Airport is certainly no exception. What makes Maho Beach completely unique is the fact that it provides an incredible vantage point for viewing the take offs and landings of the jumbo jets that utilize the beachfront airport next door. Be sure not to leave your belongs in the flight path as the jet engines are more than capable of sending your towels and beach chairs flying.

A nature lovers’ paradise, Tintamarre Island lies 2.5 miles off the northeast coast of St. Martin and is a definite must do for all visitors to the island. This spectacular island is part of the St. Martin Nature Preserve and its 100 hectares of lush vegetation are pristine. The island has some incredible beaches, as well as the remains of an airstrip, rail track and cotton plantation that are fascinating to explore. This uninhabited island does not have anywhere to buy food or water, so be sure to go prepared.

Seaside Nature is a unique attraction that should not be missed. Go horseback riding on the beautiful beach or snorkeling in the shallow reef. The park is also a great attraction for children; they can take part in a pirate treasure hunt game or enjoy a ride on an adorable pony.

One of the most unique locations on St. Martin, located at the base of Pic Paradis, is Loterie Farm, a former sugar plantation that was in operation from 1773 to 1855. This tropical paradise is home to an incredible zip line adventure course for people of all ages as well as L’eaulounge, a series of multi-tiered swimming pools surrounded by lush greenery covering over 500 square meters. An absolute must do for all!

Be ready to feel the thrill of a large, iridescence Blue Morpho butterfly sitting on your hand or watching a beautiful Monarch released to nature at the Butterfly Farm on Le Galion Beach Road. Marvel at the sheer color and variety of the tropical butterflies and watch their life cycles on full display. At a time when pollution is causing the butterfly population to diminish all around the globe, the farm provides a rare opportunity to watch and learn about this gorgeous creature.

Prickly Pear Cay, off Anguilla offers is an absolute must do. Go explore and enjoy the white sand reflecting the tropical sun, the tantalizingly warm water that invites you to jump right in and the coral reef abounding in colorful fishes that are a joy to behold. This experience will be etched in your memory forever.

Perhaps St. Martin’s most exciting beach bar, Sunset Bar & Grill in Maho Village has emerged as the island’s number one party location, particularly on Sunday afternoons. It is a great spot for live music from both Caribbean and international artists, and serves absolutely delicious food and drinks as well. The daytime crab races, where patrons bet on hermit crabs racing across the beach, are a major crowd favorite.

If you are an art lover and would love to see the vibrant colors of the Caribbean displayed in oil and pastel, you must visit the Roland Richardson Gallery Museum at Marigot. The delightful, restored 19th-century Creole building that houses the museum is a landmark in itself. Sir Roland Richardson's works are appreciated worldwide for its loving portrayal of the beautiful island of St. Martin as well as immortalizing its life and culture.

Chocolate lovers, or anyone looking to pick up a great present for a loved one should check out The Belgian Chocolate Box. The exquisite treats prepared by factory owner Beatrix and her team are truly mouth-watering, and with 75 different flavors of chocolate to chose from, you are guaranteed to find something to suit your tastes perfectly.
